Planning to change out the Mainsail Halyard next weekend on our Lancer 27 PowerSailer our current one is getting a bit old and I believe the previous owner used a 1/2" line which gets stuck occasionally and overall just feels a hair too big. I have seen various sizing recommendations online from 7/16", 3/8", and even 5/16" diameter lines. From the retailers who sell them & forum posts I have come across. What do you guys recommend?

3/8 low stretch

1/2 is way too big. You could get away with less, but it would not handle well. The key is to get good quality low stretch line. In fact, it is available at the store on this site. I'm sure they will even put an eye and thimble in it for you. My dad had a '29 power cruiser.

I changed mine out in May last year. I purchased 5/16 and it replaced the 3/8 that was on the boat. The 5/16 is working out well so I have no regrets. I may go back to 3/8 but I really do not see the need.

I purchased it here on SBO with the shackles. Both halyards were replaced. I got the Samson XLS Yacht Braid.
