Laminate damage to Hunter 30 countertop

I left a can of rust remover sitting on a rag just to the right of my sink. It sat there for two weeks.Now I have a nasty bleached and softened countertop.I have tried to find the matching laminate and have not been successful.Can someone tell me where can I find the right color?Thanks John North jnorth@cablespeed.com

Go to a top shop!

John:If you go to a shop that makes counter tops you should be able to find what you are looking for. These guys are usually the same people that make cabinets too.You may want to contact Hunter and find you who the mfg of the laminate was too.

I have found a reasonable match in Wilsonart and Formica. Now the next thing is to remove the trim and either delaminate to counter or relaminate over the damaged original. What a mess!

John:I'm glad you found a match. If you decide to go over the old stuff you need to sand down the surface to give the glue a little something to bite to. The only real problem I see if that you cannot get a edge router into the corners. If you decide to lift the old material first you will probably need to remove some of the cabinets over the stove area. This could be a very difficult job.

If you have to get in the corners.. a file works real well. Just make sure you trim off as much as possible and make file stokes down so the laminate does't have a chance to flex up. Go slow and it works fine. I'm re-doing mine soon and am curious about the remarks about the stove area being difficult. Any additional insight would be helpful as I planned to take the old top off completerly. I have already removed all the sliding cabinets from atop the counter.
