Complete novice requiring help, i'm thinking of buying a trailer sailer to learn my skills on and wondered if starting on lake such as Windermere was a good idea. Could anyone out there give me an idea of the charges to use a boat there plus the launching facilities that are available. Thanks Rob.

Is That Lake Windermere BC??

Rob, I live in Calgary and own a place at Lake Windermere. I also sail in the Gulf Islands. It costs $0 to sail at Windermere. Just launch at Pete's Marina. Watch those sudden summer squalls that appear from nowhere from the north down the valley. Maybe this is Lake Windermere in the UK?? Email me at svtula1@shaw.ca Captn Pete

I am from Warsash - near Southampton - England - don't know if there is another one in US. I suggest putting the boat wherever it looks best for both pleasant sailing and convenience of use. Most locations in UK are pretty well crammed with boats. Also you will gain great benefit from joining a sailing club as the members there will be an excellent source of help and information. For Sailing Instruction go to the Royal Yachting Association's web site www.RYA.org.uk. There you will find listings of approved sailing schools who will provide everything from a taster to yachtmaster ocean Regards, welcome and good luck.
