Steady state winds are over 40 kts, now that would be a heck of a ride, icy cold and blowing like stink!

Heres Duluth Harbor and its not even a bad gale:

Them white caps get big!

Largest wave I ever encountered at sea was 30 foot but the great lakes in a gale.... now that's scary

The water temperature with the wind stirring it up is something in 40 degree range?

It easy to forget that 40 degree Fahrenheit air is significantly denser than 80 degree air. The effect (and affect) on the sails and the boat bears a bigger punch.

Pressure and wave height comparable to the Nov '75 storm. All of the boats are still on their stands, though.
Half of Marquette County was without power and two wave spectators dead after being swept into the lake.
