Lake sailing at night

It's been brutally hot here in OK. Just finished my 7 days graveyard shift rotation at 7:00 a.m. Monday, slept until 2, did some long-overdue yard work, and headed to the lake. Did some maintenance on my bimini then put out about 8:30 p.m. and watched the sun go down and the stars come out. The glow from Owasso and Tulsa silhouetted the southwest shore but far enough away (20 mi.) that the light pollution was minimal. Only boat on the lake, stayed out until 1:00 a.m. Temp about 84, wind in the south at 10 mph, so nice and cool after the hot day.

Makes me want to experience being at sea on a clear moonless night with nothing but the stars, must be spectacular.

In my little boat. A hobie holder 12. I carry a flashlight and air horn to hopefully wake up the drunk power boaters

I miss my nightshift. Loved getting off work and making the 20 minute drive to the lake for an early morning weekday sail. Hard to beat a sunrise under sail when you've got the whole lake to your self. I've got some vaction scheduled later in the month and plan to get some full moon sailing in if my Cal hasn't sold.

Night sails are also one of my favorite thing to do.

Every time a full moon occurs on a weekend I try to get out on the boat for a moonlit sail.

If you get far enough north in the Great lakes, it gets spectacular as well.
Outer Island light, Apostle Islands. Milky Way. Don’t get me started on the northern lights.

Great thread start @PotomacDaysailer . It has been many years since I drifted in the dark out side of the Cheasapeake bay 10 miles ENE of Virginia Beach. While not perfectly dark, it was wonderful to see the stars.

Up here in the PacNW there are a number of “dark holes” where the lights of civilization fade away. I took a ride through Deception Passage at 4 in the morning back in Nov 2013. We were blessed with a vision of the moon. No electric lights but a full moon that lit up the path.
Looked a little like this.

My favorite watch was always the dawn watch. You start at night and get to see the last star disappear. My favorite color is the sky just before the sun starts to turn it orange. Sunrise is pretty, but give me the metallic chromium blue just before with Venus still shining above a gentle swell. That is peace on Earth.

Sounds like a sensitive moment. I always like to watch the progress. Want to avoid the red morning sky. Mom always said ‘Red Sky in morning, sailors take warning !’

I'd like to take credit, but no. Nor did the PO. So I don't know who did it or had it done (not the original owner either, as I have found an old picture online with a different name).

Ask one of the old timers around the marina, if it was done there one of them will know.
I looked pretty hard at that boat 5 years ago before I bought my Cal. You need to show off your saloon table as well.

I asked because have seen some vinyl shops that offer images that stick on to cars, "Wraps". Wondered how that might work on a boat. Surly not a forever idea, but if the costs are reasonable one could have any image they might want on a boat.
Here are a couple of ideas.

Becoming common. You want a Pogo in something other than white? Anything you want, because its a wrap. They expect it to last 10+ years. Really don;t know how long. The first ones they did 15+ years ago still look great.
