good trip!
Here are some pictures from a trip June 07. http://analogengineering.com/powell/We put in a Bullfrog (closest comming from Colorado) spent most of our time within about 30 miles of Bullfrog. Most people go with a power boat or house boat and have a base camp that they stay at every night but with the sailboat, we basically made a voyage to a new place everyday and camped at a differnt spot everynight. One day we did some nice sailing in Bullfrog bay but most days, we would either motor or motor sail (jib only). In June, the water was very nice for swimming and we spent a lot of time in the water and having the kayaks along was nice to but its a real trick to tow them. If you dont have that figured out before hand, you will spend some hard time bailing water out of them..What we are going to do this year is put in again at Bullfrog and then spend the first day traveling maybe 50 miles to someplace West - maybe near Rainbow Bridge. We will then spend a couple days exploring different canyons in that area staying in a different spot everynight and then work our way back over maybe a couple of days. I didnt really have the anchoring thing figured out - still dont but Id say bring a least several long ropes that you can tie the boat up at night to features on the beach such as rocks or trees. Anchors were of really limited use since the lake is generally very steep underwater. You wont be able to know of specific places to camp at night but you can find guides which will basically tell you what your odds are in a particular area and this is probably adequate. In the summer, even in some remote spots, you will find competition for the good boat camping areas and this somewhat limits how long you can stay out sailing each day since you need to start looking for a spot early (only because they might be all taken if you wait). I took about 13 gallons with a 8 hp four stroke. Next time, Ill probably take about 3 to 4 gallons per day.It was a great family trip..
