Sometime down the road, we are going to retire somewhere where we can sail more than 4 months a year. Lake Norman is a possibility. I was wondering - how high is the clearance under I77? If you launch in the northeast quadrant (Iredell County, I think), is your range limited by the interstate? Thanks - Mike

I hope word doesn't get out

that here in Florida we have year around sailing and cheap dock rates. If more and more sailors relocate to here in Florida, prices might go up :)

Phil, You Know Better Than That

If you have to ask you can't afford one. Besides that what would she think if you thought you could get a cheaper one? You know, I think it is probably cheaper to just rent one than buy.

No clearance

Mike, There is no bridge on I77; it is a causeway that runs north south which is the eastern boudary of the sailable area. On the north side the sailable area is HWY 150. It has bridges but none of them high enough to clear a sailboat mast. That leaves an area about 12 miles long to sail but only a mile or two across. The lake has a lot of fingers which does give it a 500+ miles coastline. As far as the brides I am married so I'd better shut up now!

Sorry Mike

My typing is so bad I'm the last person who should be making light of a simple typo... but I have to say this is one of the best I've ever seen here. Anyway, I'm glad you got the information you needed!

Wow - best typo?

I am honored to have achieved a place in forum notoriety! I've got to stop posting late at night. Thanks Denis - helps explain why I saw a waterfront lot listed at a price well below what I expected. Maybe next time I'll just pull out a map :)

East versus West

Mike you are correct; the lots tend to be cheaper north of hwy 150 and east of I77.In the sailable area, on the East side of the lake (Davidson Huntersville Cornelius etc...) you can expect roughly $500K for a lot. If you go on the West side, because it is further and more difficult to get to Charlotte, you can find some around $250K. Keep in mind these are rough figures and depend on the lot size.
