There is a nice big lake north of Thunderbay in Ontario. Do any of you trailer sailers have any experience or knowledge of Lake Nipigon ? Launch area, anchorages, Canadian regs. etc etc ?

Rocks

I suggest you try to get some charts for Lake Nipigon. That's Canadian Shield country; there will be rocks that want to eat your boat. The Canadian Coast Guard service (www.ccgrser.org) might have charts.

Canadian Hydrographic Services

You want to contact the Canadian Hydrographic Services for information [www.chshq.dfo.ca]. The Canadian Coast Guard web address I posted is out of date, but it does get you to the link for the new web site/address.

Lake Superior Crusing

The area north and east of Thunder Bay offers some great wilderness sailing. I have sailed my H26 out of Thunder Bay and there are many places to sail without going into the Nipigon area - if it is not suitable. Thunder Bay is an easy entry point, but there are others along the north shore as you head toward Nipigon. Canadian charts are available at a good speciality map store - at least here in Minneapolis where I live. I also strongly suggest you get a copy of a book by Bonnie Dahl called Lake Superior Cruising - or something like that. Probably can be found on an internet book site. This book has incredible detail on every part of Lake Superior and can give you a lot of information to answer your questions. If you have any more questions about the experience I have had sailing in these areas, contact me by e-mail - Frabonimn@aol.com.
