Anyone know how long it would take to sail from Chicago to Detroit?

The usual rule is to take the distance and divide it by your boatspeed. This will give you the number of hours.

Distance is about 600 knts. What is your boatspeed? Do you plan to motor in no/low wind? Straight shot or going along the shore and sleeping at night?

Will you stay out in a storm?

Many factors, need more info. Rough guess 150 hrs of sailing time

Figure a good 48 cruising hours minimum from Chicago to Mackinac. 60 might be a safer estimate. Probably the same from Mac to Detroit. So, 96 to 120 total. This assumes motorsailing to get through the calms, and assumes you don't get blown off the lake by a northeaster heading up or a southwester heading back down.
