Has anyone crossed Lake Michigan in their 260. Waves can be 5-6 ft. on a good day(or night)out in the middle. I have crossed on larger boats but I'm getting the itch to try it in my 260.

Pick your day

We have crossed Lake Michigan 10 times. Waves have been 0-4' in all those times because we have the time top pick the best conditions and then cross. We do prefer favorable wind but that is not always possible and we do keep at least 5 knots SOG. Pick the day you like and do it.

Just got back from 2 crossings in two weeks

We crossed from Grand Haven to Milwaukee last Friday (82 miles). Wind from NW 10-15 knots for 2 hours at start. Wind from West 3-5 knots for 7 hours and then- wind from SW at 15-25 knots for last three hours. Those three hours were the only sailing we were able to do. We had crossed from Sheboygan to Pentwater (66 miles)the previous Friday 9th August against a light East wind for the first six hours and SE at 10-15 knots for the last 3. Again, that was the only sailing we did. Planning ahead is certainly prudent. We postponed both crossings for one day because of unfavorable weather. We were in a Hunter 31. Good luck.
