We currently sail a Hunter 326 out of Annapolis, Md. There is talk of a job transfer to Atlanta. What is the sailing like on Lake Lanier, just north of Atlanta? Any comments?? thanks!

I spent 20+ years on Lanier

Compared to the Chesapeake Bay, it's an oversized bathtub, over populated powerboats, houseboats, PWCs and sailboats too between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The rest of the year (we use our boats year round there) it's not bad as long as you accept the idea that there's no place to go, only room to sail for a few hours. If you're a racer, winter is racing season...it's the only time there's any wind. There are Weds night races all year long, but they're mostly drifters. Still, it's convenient to Atlanta--the only waters that are close enough to let you run up and take the boat out after work on a weekday--and better than nothing. And the sailing community on Lanier is a good bunch of folks.

You will have a Hunter dealer nearby :)

Whitney's marine opened an office around Lake Lanier last summer I think it was...

I left the area for 10 years due to job transfers. Couldn't wait to get back. I'll NEVER LEAVE AGAIN!!! Too hard to get back. This is Paradise. Don't do it!!! Find another job!!! Hotlanta or Annapolis???? Nobrainer. Although a great area, Atlanta isn't for sailors. Don't do it!!
