Well good day sailors I have some ? I have 2 weeks vacation and I'm looking to sail south lake Huron, some of my friends have just come back from the north channel, and I'm told to not sail to the north after the 2nd week of AUG as the weather may be terrible. So I'm looking to travel south to Bayfield Grand bend maybe port Huron and along the us side, need some in put on were to sail to on the us side

Tawas bay is beautiful and the state dock has excellent facilities and is in the middle of East Tawas. I have heard that Port Austin harbor has been redone and is very nice also. Harrisvlle is another great place. Tawas is my home base so if you need more info let me know. Enjoy!

Its not like the lake will start icing on Aug 15.

Go to the North Channel. Some of the best cruising IN THE WORLD.

Temps might be a tad chilly but not significantly less than other Lake Huron destinations.

Getting there has got it. NC all the way.
I don't think it is so much more colder there in August or early September than the southern great lakes.
If any thing the cold will keep the mosquitoes at bay and make the bears sleepy.

I vote for the NC. The season used to extend thru August until school started beginning in the middle of August instead of after Labor Day(US). Go to Port Elgin, Tobermorey, Killarney, Little Current, and then look for Gunkholes.

If you insist on staying south, I love Port Huron, Harrisville. Crossing Saginaw bay, Presque Illegal and up to Mackinac Island, but now your as far north as the North Channel.

Do you mind if I spend a night in your slip while your gone?

North Channel for sure

We have spent 12 years in the North Channel. We moved our current boat from Port Huron to Little Current via Goderich, Port Elgin, Tobermory. Each of those legs is a ~50 mile leg. The North Channel will give you much better cruising options and August will be a little chilly at night, but delightful. From Tobermory, head for Killarney and explore the area around Killarney (e.g., Covered Portage, Thomas Bay, Snug Harbor, maybe north to Baie Finne, Mary Ann's Cove, the Pool)--too much to see and do with your schedule, but you will begin to appreciate why the NC is the best fresh water cruising in the world and one of the top 10 best cruising spots in the world.
