Lake Charlevoix, MI

I just got back from vacation in NW Michigan. I'm thinking seriously of moving there in a couple of years, but I need a place to keep a boat that will be well protected but still has access to Lake Michgan. Seems like Lake Charlevoix is the best place in the Traverse Bay area for that. Can anyone tell me something about the marinas and yards in the area??(I did have some time to check out the marina at Elk Rapids, but they don't seem to have a travel lift or any place to put the boats over the winter...)

Try Irish Boat shop they are a big player in both Charlevoix and Harbor Springs.

we have been on lake charlevoix for 3 summers and agree it is excellent for sailing. we have a 23 ft oday and keep it at irish boat works. there are several marinas as well as individuals willing to rent dock space or a mooring. the north end of the lake is preferred for sail and access to lake michigan.irish is on line.

Grand Traverse Bay

I put my h25 in at the west side of Traverse City. (Greilickville) Harbor West Yacht Services has a travel lift and it's just a couple blocks from where I store my boat. The bay is somewhat protected and great for sailing. I am on the Mission Peninsula almost directly accross from Elk Rapids . I've heard some of the sailors there hire a crane and split the fee.

Irish is going to send me some info on their facilities and rates.As far as Grand Traverse Bay goes, I'd much prefer to stay on the west side -- that's where all my relatives live (Bellaire area). The only marina that I found there was the one in Elk Rapids. The slips looked nice, and good access to the Bay, but I didn't see any other yard or storage facilities there. Where do they go to get hauled out?
