Ladylove's new home.

Finally!! After nine months I actually got to go on my boat. Ladylove is in such a great spot on Davis Island. And in such great shape thanks to Ed A(in picture) and wife Lea. When I got there today Ed had the air running and the boat was cool, clean, and without mildew. With a little luck I'll sail her on Friday.

Such a small world too. Directly across the dock is "Cool Change", a gorgeous Tartan 37. A couple of years ago while I was visiting Ladylove in North Carolina Ed called to say they were coming to Oriental to deliver a boat to Tampa. I had my van so became the shuttle service. The boat they were delivering was Cool Change. I met her owner today and got more on the race to Mexico. They got hammered both directions as it turns out.

Love the tall palm trees as the backdrop. Looks like a nice location. Is that a permanent open spot between you and the boat with the blue sunbrella on the roller furling? If so, lots of space between you and the neighbors.

The featured plants at my marina are several large weeping willows providing shade to the park lawn.

Couldn't help noticing the sail cover in front of the mast ; is that a jib?
And why so long?
Mine is folded into a bag and it will (when ready) be attached to the forestay, but yours puzzles me

Ed has a cutter rig. It consists of 2 (relatively small) sails forward of the mast instead of 1 large sail. The one you see on Ed's boat is on a boom something like the main. It is certainly a stylish rig. I imagine Ed will be glad to expound on the virtues of that particular configuration. I rather fancy them myself, though my 79 30' is a standard sloop rig.

Thank you Tom: I had never seen such a thing on a boat
I learn everyday, it's a great feeling
And I will continue posting stuff related to my progress; my neighbors at the Marina shake their heads in wonder, because they saw the wreck arriving, with the mast across and big gashes on SB side, and now they see the progress.
I sleep there every Friday, except last: they broke into my truck as I stopped at the office and stole my ccards,SS card, drivers license and check books, so I spent the day cancelling them
But came Sunday, I figured it didn't help crying after spilt milk
Had a great time Sunday, and treated myself to shrimp and champagne
Tomorrow I will instal the 2 winches on the cabin top and , 2 turning blocks and 1 rope clutch, in the spaces provided for these items
Will report on how I finish off on the inside, whether I will use a ss plate with cup nuts, or with nice teak

I'm sure you are enjoying sailing this weekend.

Jorge, the boom with the sail cover on it forward of the mast is for the staysail. The boom makes it self-tacking, so there is no need to resheet the sail when coming about.

Ahead of the staysail is the Yankee - it is like a genny with a high clew. This set-up is called a cutter rig.

Thanks for getting Jorge up to speed on the cutter-rig guys. I had read his post and then got distracted and forgot to follow up. She is a beauty Jorge but close up has lots of minor issues. Just like any old boat. And after twelve years I am only halfway through the upgrades.
