Three years and three months later I returned to Harbor North marina in Huron, OH. I first ran into Kirk Wilson, the marina broker, who owns H37C #063, the second picture. It is in the spreadsheet Jim if you want to update it with the name and location. May be shortlived as I see it on the broker's sheet. I also found my cradle and it is pretty good shape after three winters, only one pad missing. The boat is to arrive next Wednesday, just one week from today.

Did you all see that the Great Lakes set a low pressure record?! Supposedly Lake Michigan was worse than the night the Edmund Fitzgerald broke in half. It was still blowing 30+ today.

Re: Ladylove going home

Thanks for the info Ed - I updated the entry for Hull# 63. Is the boat still called Irresponsible?

You will be glad to have Ladylove close to home. Calypso gets hauled in two weeks. Hopefully the guy who quoted on repairing the hurricane damage will get started on the work before the snow flies. He will install a new toerail on the stbd side, repair the rubrail and replace three or four stanchions. Then there is replacing sundry items - blocks, lifelines, etc. - $16K all told. After hearing about Blaise's rudder repairs, I didn't have sticker shock, but its easy to understand why our insurance premiums go up every year.

Ed you must be thrilled to have your boat back home !
Jim, I still can't believe how much it cost to have a boatyard working on a boat, long live to DIY as long as you don't count your hours. We are travelling with a catamaran that got it by the same hurricane that damaged you boat, they managed to drag a 4000 pounds mooring with their 8000 pounds cat, luckyli their achor stop them from getting to close to shore.

I actually sampled that low pressure on tuesday. I am visiting a lumber mill in Green Bay and flew into DTW, then onto Green Bay in a commuter plane. Now that was a ride. I thought the swells on Winyah Bay were rought. They had to pry my hands from the armrest when we landed. And boy, what a shocker, left Carolina in the 80,s and landed in the 40,s. Can't wait to get back.
Glad to see you are getting your boat back. I am sure you will soon have a list of projects to keep you busy. Just pace yourself.

Thanks guys. No Jim, #063 is now "C-Time". And in the picture above the keel is in the mud. That's the Huron river, just a mile from the lake. Those 30+ south winds blow all the water to Canada. Water level was down over three feet.

Welcome home. I hope you enjoyed your time in Florida. We plan to spend a week in the Keys next month.

You are right, the low system over the Great Lakes was extremely deep. I got a snapshot of the surface analysis as of 8 pm (East Coast time) last night. I don't believe that this was at the lowest central pressure, but it's still impressive (see attached.)

Ladylove IS home? ?

Well the boat might be in the cradle right now. But I don't know for sure since I can't be there today. I was at the lake yesterday to leave the cashier's check and to ready the cradle. I also paid my 2011 marina bill. I only wish those were the last of the checks. But no, the boat needs new standing rigging, a new furler, and new lifelines.

Kind of anxious to see how the anti-fouling held up in salt water. In Oct. 2008 while in Oriental I switched to a WM ablative after ten years of a hard epoxy. Have to decide what to use in the spring back on Lake Erie.

Hopefully my next post will be of the boat finally resting comfortably at Harbor North in Huron, OH. I will wait until Saturday since a cold rain is forecast for tomorrow, Friday. I will winterize, cover, and if time permits remove the standing rigging so that they can wrap and store the mast.

P.S. just received some pictures courtesy of Kirk Wilson, another H37C owner at Harbor North. She looks awfully good to me.

re. Ladylove IS home.

This morning's muscle pain is a grim reminder of how hard winterizing is for an old man. Crawling in the back to drain and bypass the water heater wasn't enough. Then into the bilge to empty the water tanks and pump anti-freeze through the engine, the fresh water system, and the head. And so much stuff to get off the boat, stuff that has been there since July 2007 when Ladylove left this same marina for Florida.

I am encouraged regarding the ablative anti-fouling. What you see is the remainder of two coats of WM that was in the water for two years. The prop never looked like that in Lake Erie. And I saw my first snow of the season, just north of Akron and twenty miles later nothing.

Re: Ladylove going home

Ed,
How far are you from Columbus? I am going to be up here on and off for five years and would love to sail with you some time. Jim, where is the data base? and do you have my boat on it? My boat is #42. Model year 1979, purchased Dec. 1978. Deep draft.

Two hours to here in south Akron Blaise. Three if you go directly to the boat and meet me there. Sure hope it happens. What's in Columbus besides THE Ohio State?

P.S. Jim posted the two PDFs, on the "Evolution" thread. It is in post #22 which is the third post on page 2. I could repost them here but hate to use up Phil's disk space. :naughty:
