Time for an update. Some of the issues faced this week are iron sick floors, sprung planks and a bad plank, along with the seam reefing and detailing of the planks for varnish. I picked up a nice piece of Sapele for the bad plank and took care of it today.



I cut the piece and fitted it in with shims at first.







I bored the new screw holes prior to glue up and then mixed epoxy and mahogany sawdust. I set the scarph joint with screws and let it cook a bit before I had big Zach press the new plank flush while I drove screws.



It flushed out nicely.



The boys worked the seams again today.



I should do these last three salon ribs tomorrow.

Charlie, Somebody said that a wooden boat was a few thousand small jobs all done very well. From what I have seen you have a very good start.

Yeah Ross, that can be the biggest issue with repairing one. Undoing the few hundred small jobs done over the top of the small job you need to fix, like peeling an onion...

are you going to varnish the topsides? if so are you removing all trace's of white then installing brown caulk?
Having had the experience of restoring an old Chris Craft 25 years ago I love the pictures and your work

Really takes me back, love the looks of that wood. Growing up we had an all mahogany Century. The varnish finish was gorgeous and held up amazingly well. That project looks to be almost as much fun as sailing the boat.

P.S. this post made me reminisce about those days. So I went and found a restoration website and this picture, a 1953 Century Seamaid, and the boat that I learned to ski behind. Had a 4-cyl Chrysler I think.

Yep, we are varnishing above the waterline but will use white compound above and brown below. The contrast should look nice.

The wood on this boat is in pretty decent shape. We have some detail cleaning to do to get the old paint outta the grain but it should look sharp. Keeping it that way may be quite the challenge...
