What Kind Is It?

Not brand name, but...Is that a domestic water pump? A bilge pump? Why is there a 120v wire/plug coming off of it?

Very interesting pump.

Have you figured out where that big bulge came from, or how it grew? I do have a question on your post though. What do you mean "it was keeping the bilge pump quite busy". Do you mean it was quite busy pumping water out? If not, what was this pump doing letting water into the bilge for the bilge pump to pump it out? What was this pump used for?

A/C pump

JC, I think the bulge is heat related. The pump is a relatively common seawater pump used in many A/C applications. The pump seized and ruptured at its seam. The thermal limit on the A/C unit shut everything down but the pump continued to leak probably a gallon plus(?) an hour (mounted close to the thru-hull below the water line). Paul the 120 wire /plug connects to the A/C control panel to cycle the pump.

I think...

the photo's a little suggestive, especially with the "lumps and bumps" terminology.... But maybe that's my dirty mind...

There's one in every crowd

Relax Peter, the pump no longer has a pulse. I will try to clean it up next time. We hillbillies have only been wearing shoes a couple of years and often find it difficult to communicate with some of the West Coast crowd. I'll do better yall.

What?

man, you hillbillies have it made We just use a 5,200 BTU window unit for A/C. I don't think the california crowd would understand this either.
