Have a problem with using the ladder on my 23.5 or should I say getting back in my 23.5. We are on a southern lake and need to get in the water alot in these hot months. Has anyone made changes to their ladder or replaced their ladder? If so, what type and how many steps, and how it works. Thanks

Added teak

I got tired of feeling pain everytime my bare feet had to deal with the small rungs on my Hunter 19 ladder. I found some oval cross section lengths of teak and fastened them to the rungs with small s.s. nuts/bolts. Don't know if this was the answer you were looking for, but I am happy with addition.

Added extra step

I added an extra step to the ladder on my 23.5. Purchased Add-A-Step from Boat/US. Makes it a lot easier to get on the boat. I have been studying the problem of the small rungs and the pain they cause the feet but I haven't decided on fix for that yet.

Step by step......again

Lou: I think that Johnson Marine makes plastic pads for the stern boarding ladders. They clamp onto each step with a "u" bracket. They work quite well and make getting aboard from the water a lot more comfortable. They are available from West Marine.

Ladder fixes

Steve is correct. West Marine has plastic steps that you can clamp onto the rungs of the ladder. I added them to mine when the boat was new in 1994 after the first time experiencing the bare rungs on bare feet. I wrapped a little double stick padded tape around the rungs as the clamps for the steps were too big for the diameter of the rungs. After 5 years they're still there. Ghery Pettit S/V Cougar Pride

rubberized steps

I ADDED RUBERIZED TREADS THAT ARE POP-RIVETED ONTO THE FRAME.THAT GREATLY HELPS, BT HUNTER REALLY NEEDED TO A THIRD STEP. JACK RESPITE

23.5 ladder

Initially, the ladder was tubular and not long enough. There are several good ideas already mentioned simply adding the steps which make it easier on the foot; however, Hunter changed the ladder during the last two years of production by adding another step with the rungs flattened containing a rubber tread. Although it would cost more, but you might inquire with your dealer or Hunter marine about this.

Want Add a step

I too have problem with my ladder. I have the plastic steps on the ladder which makes it easier when I get to that part. Just like Lou, I have a problem getting up to the step once I'm in the water. Where do I find the Add-A-Step from Boat/US. Tried to find Boat/US on the internet but could not .
