Great three days/ two nights at Cat Island, MS sound. Thought I might share some pics. Weather was perfect. Good winds, sunny days, and cool nights had us reaching for cover. Ate well and relaxed.

Getting ready to grill, day one:

Loose Diamond in Smugglers Cove at sunset, day 1:

Sunrise, day 2:

Counted over 60 boats in cove on Sunday:

Pic of me throwing cast net inland pond:

Heineken retrieving dog. He preferred Heinekin to Corona every time!

Sunrise, day 3:

Dolphin on the way back to Long Beach Harbor. Can see the scars on his back.

The downside, tar balls are still washing up on the south side of Cat Island. They are cleaning as they come in, to their credit. Didn't notice anything untowards in the cove/marsh grass, or in the water as I swam.

We are hanging in there! God bless Mississippi and pass the antiseptic!

Labor Day Sailing

Nice shots of the beach around Cat Island and Smugglers Cove.. Timing and family restricted me to day sailing on the Pontchartrain.. I hadn't had both my boys out with me in quite a while.. We had a fine sail.

Beautiful pics. I was next door to you, at West Ship. Yes, the weather was great... warm enough during the day to swim, cool enough in the evening for very comfortable sleeping. The only problem we encountered was an unforecast increase in wind late Saturday night... being on the north side of the island, the 15kt NE wind gave us a thrashing all night... I spent several hours on anchor watch before finally feeling confident that the Manson Supreme would hold and heading down for a little sleep.

Bet you were nice an comfy over on the south side of Cat though! We used to go to Smuggler's Cove all the time pre-K, but haven't been there much in the new boat. Part of that is depth anxiety... our old boat had a very shallow draft, while our current boat draws 4ft. (which, of course, is not too bad either). What kinds of depths are you seeing in the Cove? And is that southeastern tip of the island that was washed away rebuilding itself?

Wonderful pics

Glad you enjoyed the weekend. Cool pics. I too am wondering about water depth in there. Didn't seem much in the way of larger sailboats in there though. I have not been on the S. side since Katrina, but used to be my favorite anchorage.
