I just felt I had to scream out what great customer service I've received over the years from Standard Horizon (now Vertex Standard). On my old boat, I had a Standard Horizon AWI which kept giving me issues and Tim Johnson (I think that was his name) kept sending replacement parts, free of charge. A few years ago when I transferred my Eclipse radio with a RAM mic to the new boat, the RAM mike refused to work. I sent it in for repair, Tim called me and said 'don't worry about it, those things go bad so we're sending you a new one, no charge'. And the mic was about 4 years old at that point!

This time around I called them (Tim's now retired after about 15 years with them) and spoke to a technician about how to best clean the mold and crud off the mike cord on the RAM which had accumulated over the past 3 years. Mainly from living under the pedestal cover in the hot sun during each week, cleaning the cord being one of those 'round-tuit' projects I never got around to.

Anyway, after giving me some cleaning suggestions (I was afraid of soaking in bleach for fear of destroying the cord) the tech basically said 'but don't worry about it, I'll send you a new one, no charge'!

So today I received a large padded envelope with not one, but TWO mike cords, one White and one Black!!!

Talk about customer service!!!!!

These times when businesses are criticized frequently, it's nice to hear about exceptional service. Thanks for sharing.

Standard Horizon is Great

A few years ago their technical support really worked with me to get my radio to see my GPS. The radio is 9 years old and runs great.

Hey Windsock: What's Standards phone #. I have an old analog, yeah the same one that Lord Nelson used, ship to shore and can't find replacement for channel 16 crystal. Maybe they have one in the boneyard. Fair Winds and full sails....

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
Profurl sent me some furler parts for my older unit....about $500 in parts. This was equipment installed by previous owners. I needed some parts on my top swivel bearing and an extrusion. They cut the extrusion to size too. All of this free of charge.

There are some great companies that are out there....the trouble is to weed through the bad ones to figure out who is worthy of your business. Often the cheapest place isn't the best place.

Without hesitation I would install a Profurl on any boat that I had because of the dealings that I had with them!

I've had the same and terrific customer service from Standard Horizon - and funny you mention "Tim" because that is the guy I recall being so helpful. I buy all their products now because of their customer service.

I make it a point to send a letter or email to someone above customer service when I get fantastic support. The companies need to know what hey do RIGHT as ell as wrong. I stopped buying products that support is lousy for. Great to hear SH still realizes what matters since I have 2 of heir radios. SC

I have a Standard Horizon handheld. I put it in a bag and stepped on it and broke the faceplate. I sent it in for repairs expecting to pay for it. It was my fault after all. And they fixed it for FREE. Same radio works great today but I am thinking of replacing my ship's radio. Guess which brand it will be! You just don't forget.

When the volume knob died on our GX2100 AIS VHF I called them and asked for an RMA.

"Oh no need for an RMA just send it back."

"Do you need a receipt?"

"No the radio has only been out less than a year and has a three year warranty."

So I sent it back. A new radio was returned to me in about 10 days. That reminds me I do need to get that listed in the classifieds...! Anyone need a GX2100 AIS...?;)

Great company!!!!
