Kubota Dealers Lack of Assistance

I have a 1984 C30 that has a funky starter. Nine out of ten times it will start fine, but the one time I need it, all I get is a loud clunk when I turn the ignition. I removed the starter and took it to a repair shop where upon investigation it was not the starter but the solenoid. Thru this forum, I found out Kubota supposedly made the Universal M-25 engine. I contacted the local Kubota dealer to purchase a new solenoid and he called his distributor to find out about Kubota being the manufacturer of the engine. His distrbutor replied that to his knowledge Kubota did not make it and that he had several other requests regarding the same thing. The dealer told me he did not want to get in the middle of this and that I need to look elsewhere. We all know that sailors pay an arm and a leg for parts from a marine dealer and that any time we can find an alternate source for similar but less expensive parts we take it. Would anyone here know the solenoid part number and manufacturer as I also understand from here that external parts were not Kubota's responsibility. Thank you in advance.

part number

I had a local repair shop in Akron Ohio; called AUSTIN PARTS & SERVICE 330-253-7791, repaired my starter with a new solenoid and they checked out the starter itself. The bill was @40 bucks, they do starters for semi-trucks, forklifts, cars, etc. The WESTERBAKE home page is where I found the info on the Kobota...it was on the M3-20... they said they bought BLOCKS from Kobota, BUT... an engine block is cast and the starter mounting holes are part of the cast so the starter aligns with the fly wheel. The holes are made for a certain starter..@ a chevy starter will not bolt to a ford since the holes are not the same. This worked for me and I hope you have the same results. p/s The main service man at this business said MY starter was the same that is used on Mitsubishi forklift. If you want I will respond tomarrow with the part # of the solenoid they used on my starter. SORRY FOR ANY MISLEADING THE PREVIOUS RESPONSE MAY HAVE HAD, I THOUGHT I SAID THE M3-20.

hello charles, can't help with a pn. but a motor is a motor, take it to any electric motor shop for a rebuild. new windings, barings, bushings, they may be able to look at the solenoid and find a replacement. john

Kubota D-950 Engine

The Engine is a Kubota D-950 for B 8200 tractor. If they have this info they can get your part. My Kubota dealer was very helpful. It may just depend on the dealer's interest in helping you.
