I just noticed that I live a few blocks away from a Kubota Tractor Dealer. Now, is the Universal engine simply a 'marinized' version of a tractor engine? If so, what is the chance of getting service parts there? Hoses, injector cleaning... so on and so forth.

Just wondering....

They are very good. M25 is a D850 Kubota tractor engine. I get thermostats and things from our Kubota dealers around here.

My Kubota dealer services Amish generators. Between my 30 Catalina and my 310, has supplied me starters, fuel pumps, injectors, oil filters, sending units and more. He has also visited my boat and taught me a lot about the diesel. Great source and big savings on parts.

stu, sometimes one can't and torreson is, if nothing else. quick. also, maybe not everyone knows torreson exists. we both know owning a sailboat, especially if one doesn't want to miss summer sailing days, ain't alwasy cheap.

Yup, I don't disagree. Folks should bookmark Torreson, always know they are there but final alternate less expensive vendors, too. Shipping still takes a day or more depending on what you're willing to spend, or how fast you need it. :)

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
I know where there is a Kubota dealership near me. I can pick up a lot of filers and parts in person. Saving shipping and delays......priceless.

Just recognize that our M25 series engines are MARINIZED Kubota blocks. That means that Universal/Westerbeke added the heat exchangers and the raw water pumps, because as tractor engines they were air cooled, so the freshwater coolant side got cooled by a radiator, like in a car.

You can find most of the M25 and M30 and M35 parts at a Kubota parts place. You will not find the marinized parts there.

For sources for those parts, see: http://forums.catalina.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?p=872660&highlight=depco

Our C34 Tech wiki has a lot of engine information for Kubota blocks:

http://www.c34.org/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

Scroll down to engines and fuel. That information is applicable to many Catalinas, not just the C34, and also for those with many other boats with similar systems.

stu, we all have different lives and i live on a rural island - manhattan - and by the time i add up the tolls and trouble to get to the nearest kubota dealer, torreson is a bargain.

ship,

My Kubota guy tells me that my M18 is based on the Z600 block and that he also uses a Kubota Tractor reference of B5100DT.

You should also have your engine serial number available for them as some of the parts are serial number specific.

Take care, DanM

morty, perhaps you still don't get it. You don't have to drive to Kubota dealer, you find one and call them up. If their prices are lower than Torreson, it's still less expensive. That's what I do and it works.

I understand that the only tractors left in Manhattan are in Central Park. :)
