Peggy, can we use KO in a Lectra/San unit? Will it defeat the purpose of the unit or the process? Thanks Sandy

No problem using K.O. in a Lectra/San

K.O. is non-chemical (live-bacteria), so there's nothing in it that can damage the Lectra/San. Same is true, btw, of C.P. In fact, even before Raritan bought the company, K.O. and C.P were the only products they recommended for use with a Lectra/San. However, you've raised another issue: whether or not it's a good idea to discharge the Lectra/San into the holding tank in "no discharge" waters. It's not. Raritan used to recommend doing that until they realized that, although the Lectra/San kills MOST of the bacteria, it doesn't kill quite all of it...and the ones that survive can still multiply and create odor. Because the Lectra/San makes chlorine, that chlorine makes bio-active tank maintenance impossible, which means you'd have to use chemicals to try to control odor. That's a bad idea on several fronts: toxic chemicals either going into sewage treatment facilities (city sewers or septic tanks) on land...and--the Lectra/San macerates to liquid, but it doesn't break down and emulsify...so everything is still suspended particles that end up, along with sludge, at the bottom the tank. So if your system is plumbed with a y-valve after the Lectra/San--that lets you choose between discharging it overboard or into the tank, it should be re-plumbed to put the y-valve ahead of the Lectra/San...so that you have a choice of going overboard through the Lectra/San or or by-passing it to go directly from the head to the tank.
