Knots, which ones?

For the mainsheet, what knot to hold it on the whatever it is called?
Should I just use 2 stainless hog rings and make a loop?

If I want to reef, my boom has the block on the side and sail has the reef point.
What know for the clue end? How do I secure the tack for a reef?

How should I tie off the topping lift at each end?

Trying to put the roller furler retract line in place. The end was melted some and is difficult to get in the hole. The hole in the drum seems to be the size of the line. Any suggestions?

Some pictures might help.

For the reefing system, you probably have either single-line or double-line reefing (see https://www.riggingdoctor.com/life-aboard/2016/3/8/single-vs-doulbe). You'll find lots of opinions, but either can work for a small boat. If have a single-line system (and stick with it), you might use Amsteel for the line through the reefing points; it will greatly reduce friction. But you need a cover on the end where you'll cleat it (Amsteel is too slippery to hold on a cleat).

I can offer an option for your furler line without seeing it: whip the end (https://www.animatedknots.com/common-whipping-knot) and cut off the melted part.

"Lower mainsheet purchase, fiddle w/becket"

it attaches to the "mainsheet swivel base w/cam"

Eyesplice, buntline knot, bowline to the becket should work great.

Read owners manual under boat info for hunter 170. Please learn some basic terms. Then ask
His googljitsu skills are weak, but to be fair..the manual neither identifies the parts nor suggests a good knot.

I dare anyone to read the full instructions for reeving the purchase.

Here is a case where a picture is worth a million words.

Of course, they leave out which way the lower sheave one way switch should be set up. Should it keep the line from pulling out or being pulled?
Does that even get used in practice?

Due to the "excellent" documentation. i actally did install the rachet backwards.

Leave the rachet on most of the time. Turn off rachet for very light winds.

I’ve seen hog rings used on beckets, but I don’t trust them. I use a bowline or a splice.

On the topping lift, I use a bowline at the top of the mast & a rolling hitch on the boom end. The rolling hitch lets me adjust the length of the topping lift for different boom heights.

If you still haven’t gotten the furling line into the hole at the base of the drum, you might try heating the end of the line with a lighter or torch, then rolling the softened end of the line between two flat boards, to reduce it’s diameter into a point.
