My paddle wheel spins freely, but my knotmeter usually doesn't. Once in a while it comes back to life after sailing for a while. What could be the problem? I believe the make is Datamarine. It's on my 83 Catalina 30 TR.

Datamarine Knotmeter

First check your connection into the back of the display module. Could be a loose power connection or the cable comming from the paddle. Also you can call Datamarine International directly, 508-563-7151. They have good customer service.

ST 60 Question

I have just installed a new ST60 speed instrument. My GPS shows around 5 KTS while the new ST60 shows 3.5KTS. I waited on hold for 40 minutes and the technician said I could just calibrate it to the GPS. He started to reel off instructions, when I said to slow down he seemed anoyed, and stated it was all in the owners manual. When I went down to the boat to check the owners manual, the instructions he was reading to me were nowhere to be found in the owners manual. Anybody know the procedure to calibrate the instrument to read the same as the GPS.

To Chief:

Use the "Cal factor adjust" method as described on page 29 of the ST60 user manual, and adjust your speed to match the GPS. Be careful of any currents when you are doing this however - they can make a big difference. Even with WAAS I still find significant differences between GPS and ST60 indicated speeds at times.
