My 1976 O'Day came with the original knotmeter but no paddlewheel/sending unit. The hole where the sending unit goes is fitted with a dummy plug. I have a hand-held GPS but would also like to make the knotmeter functional. Suggestions for part sources, please? Thanks.

If Oday fitted instrumentation it was never listed in adverts.

Painted pinwheel

My Oday 25 knotmeter has several coats of paint on the pinwheel. I dont know if it's worth the effort to try and clean it up. The big problem is, i dont know how to remove it. I dont want to destroy it in place and end up with a bigger problem. Any idea's ?

)'Day 25 knormeter

I have a 78 O'Day 25 that I purchased new. To my knowledge knotmeters were not a factory option. It was probably either added by the dealer or an earlier owner. The type of paddlewheel required depends on the tpye of instrument you have. I added an EMS, now MOOR Electronics unit when we purchased the boat. It came with both paddlewheel and dummy plug. Before you can get the correct paddlewhell, you need to determine the brand of knotmeter that you have.

Replace the whole system

I had a Kenyon Unit in my 26 and started down the path of finding parts to make it work. After some searching with no luck I decided to replace with NavMan. The only issue was that the thru hull was smaller than what was there. I ended up putting a couple of layers of fiberglass on the inside to give me a foundation to fill the hole from the outside and redrill. I am very happy with the NavMan as it has BIG numbers on the display. When is was all done I wish I had not wasted time trying to make the old unit serviceable.
