Does anyone know the manufacturer of the knotmeter used in a 1988 Catalina 30' sailboat? I wish to replace the paddle wheel.

Look at the display

It should have some sort of identification, logo, or name plate. Usually on the back of the display you can get an model number and serial number, which might be important in getting replacement parts. Knowing nothing else, I'd guess it might be a Datamarine. They were very popular around that time frame. (My 87 has them)

"Impulse" models?

My 85 has instruments made by Impulse. I contacted them on the web, and was told that the replacement instruments are being made by Datamarine. While they do not repair the Impulse instruments, the Datamarine through-hulls are very similar, so perhaps the part will work. If they are Impulse models, go to www.impulse.com. The customer service dept is very helpful.

My '89 came with...

a Signet Marine "SmartPak". They are on the web at signetmarine.com

Similar Problem

I have a 1985 Catalina 30 and have a problem with my knotmeter. It is a Standard. I contacted the company and they said that an impeller kit is not available for my model. They also said that the only way to replace it is to replace the entire set-up: through-hull, wiring and instrument. If you find our anything different I would be very interested.

Standard Instruments Available

Mike, I have a complete set of Standard Depth and Speed Instruments and transducers (including the dummy plug for the speed transducer) I removed them last weekend from my '86 C-30 and replaced them with Raytheon stuff. E-mail me if you have any interest in buying them. steveleach@pacowinders.com
