KL Industry 10.2 boat for dinghy?

Anybody out there ever used this boat as a dinghy? I am considering a 10.2 KL industry 10.2 boat for my Dinghy. Why do you ask? Well it is reasonably price $1300 with these extras: Full navigation lights, pre-wired for trolling motor at bow and stern, livewell with drain and aerator pump, twin swivel padded chairs and is doubled hull. Up to 7 HP motor. Down side is it may not be to stable and that is my questions. My biggest concern is getting in and out of it on the back of my boat or a dock. I don't anticipated problems with rough water motoring due to my travel area. I have used a walkerbay and was not happy with its stability. I thank this vessel will be much more stable. Thanks for you input.

Rick I too find myself looking for a dinghy today. Never had one before and found a KL Industries Water Quest WaterTender Row Boat (9.4 feet) online for 571 with free shipping. Any thought or advise.

When we had our Island Packet 38 we needed to purchase a new dingy as the one with the boat leaked faster than we could blow it up. We bought a West Marine 10 foot Roto-molded boat. It had a barge like flat bow and had 2 tunnels on the bottom. There were 3 bench seats. One at the bow, one in the middle and a rear seat. We had a old Johnson 4 horse 2 stroke motor that would plain the boat with me only sitting in the mid seat.
The beauty of the boat was that I could scrape the bottom with a 4 inch spatula to remove the critters that built up in Florida waters. The boat was VERY strong and a dream to step into. Many times we had our weight plus all our goods aboard and the total was in the 600#'s. She was 4 1/4 feet wide and cost $550 in 2002.
By the time we ended our live aboard cruising adventure 5 other cruisers had bought this same boat. It would carry 4 people but I would limit the gear on those trips.
I carried the dingy on davitts and had a cover made to keep out the rain.
I just saw Richie's post and that was the boat only I think ours was the next size up. It was called a "Water Tender" and was 10 feet. The smaller boat had a drain and the next size up didn't and that was our type.

That sounds like the 10.2 when it was called a hound dog or something like that. Do you remember the weight? I have looked at the basic model at one time but I wanted the running lights etc. Could you stand up in this boat? That is part of my concern. I realize that I can not stand on the gunwales but I hope if I stand a little off center it will not flip me out. I assume it much more stable than a canoe. I am fairly certain I will buy the 10.2 and I will let you know if I have a problem. Thanks for the information.

Rick I talked to my wife and she said it was the 10.2. The weight was about 150# dry. I couldn't carry it myself but my wife and I could lift it. It was easy to raise on the davitts. It wasn't any heavier than the inflatable it replaced.
I used to stand up in the center and used a throttle extension to reach the motor when I plained it.
With the 2 of us we never stood up unless getting in or out.
I figured that for the price we paid I could buy at least 3 of them for 1 inflatable and where we sailed there was always the chance of it being stolen. Therefore it was easy to find as all the others were inflatables.
Like I said, all our friends bought them.
