Has anyone used kiwigrip for nonskid refinishing of their deck? How easy was it to apply and how has it performed? Thanks.

Gary: One of our harbor mates did his H'30 last year. He followed directions as directed. It looks similar to the original and makes a nice finish. It is best to remove as much hardware from the decks and repair and cracks prior to the application. The real question is how long is it going to last. It appears to be a much better quality finish than paint/sand and from what I see it should look good much longer too. The key is proper & precise masking and removing the tape as soon as you are done. I think that it took just about 1 gal for a 30 ft. Cherubini (cockpit included).

Durabak 18
I had never heard of kiwigrip. Looks pretty good though. I just put down Durabak 18 on my decks last week. Easy to apply and looks great. It's all in the prep work. Can't say anything about durability, but the rubber granules in the Durabak quiets things down.

On another forum, I did a report on various non-skid coatings including KiwiGrip. It was the first time I had ever seen KiwiGrip used. I also contacted Panche, the people that sell kiwigrip in the U.S. and he said it will last at least 5 years. Hope this helps, fair winds Cap'n Dave

other options
The other product I was going to consider is Interlux Interdeck. I have not found any long term data on durability of the kiwigrip other than the manufacturers claim. My decks were previously painted over the original molded nonskid with some nonskid additive. I'm looking for the simplest solution.

I used kiwigrip on our 33.5 at the beginning of last summer and it is a huge improvement, both appearance and for safety.When I use a pressure washer to clean the decks they look like new.

Another product to consider would be Epifanes' Antislipvert. Friends of mine did their Mariner 38 decks with Awlgrip and then used Antislipvert for the non skid areas. Stacey & Neil then proceeded to use the boat hard for about four years and it's been very, very durable for a one component paint. The boat has been from Maine to South America and the Antislipvert looks no worse for the wear. I may actually use it on my boat when the time comes..
