So this morning I am at the counter eating breakfast with my daughter and she grabs an issue of Sail Magazine. As two and a half year old kids do she starts thumbing though pages and pointing at pictures.
She see's an ad for an Outbound 46 and says "sai boot", I say "yes sail boat", she then points to a picture of a sail boat towing a dinghy and says "ding ee", I say "yes dinghy", she points to an ad for a Hallberg-Rassy and says "sai boot" and I agree and she does the same with an Alerion Express 28. This goes on for a few minutes and she does not miss one description until.......
She flips a few more pages and points to an article for one of the new trailerable motor sailor/hybrids, the kind that can tow water skiers, (the brand is not important) and say's "boot". At this point I really don't know how to respond...
She knows, and has been taught, what sail boats, dinghys and motor boats are and she calls motor boats simply "boots".. I flipped a few more pages and she kept geting her descriptions right so I flipped back to the "boot" article and she once again, without batting an eye says proudly "BOOT".... Perhaps the aesthetic design teams might want to enlist 2-3 year olds for help. Sometimes kids are just too honest. Hmm doesn't look like a sail boat must be a "boot"...
Disclaimer: This is NOT meant to disparage anyone who might own or enjoy one of these craft. I just found it a funny assessment, by a 2 1/2 year old, of aesthetics.
