Hi I am new to the Oday family I purchased my boat last year. I would like to know if there is an alternative to the rope fixing at the bottom of the mast for the Kicking Strap or Boom Bang as you call it over here. It seems a bit " Mickey Mouse " to me as the rope comes off very easily which renders the Kicking Strap Useless. I would be greatful for any ideas Ron

It's Boom Vang, actually....

Personally, I have no idea what "Vang" means, but thats what people call it. I'd expect the vang to attach to something fairly robust at the base of the mast. On my boat, which is smaller than yours, there is a stainless eyestrap that screws into a piece of aluminum rod which clamps the whole affair in the sailtrack. When you say "rope fixing" do you mean a cleat? Is it possible that you are fastening your vang to the cleat meant for the boom downhaul?

When I said rope fixing I ment a peice of rope about 6" long with an eye at either end which slips over the pivot pin at the base of the mast. This in turn has a block that runs on it which is attached to the Vang Ron
