Kicker trouble

I own a Hunter 23 1986 and I'm having trouble with my '94 Mariner 9.9. When first started, it smokes badly. The amoke will lessen to almost nothing after a few minutes. It'll then run for 20 to 30 minutes with no problem. Then, for no apparant reason, it will slow and then die completely. If I let it sit for 15 minutes, it'll fire right back up again and run for another 20 to 30 minutes. The carb was re-built recently and it was running beautifully until recently. What might cause this? Am I making a mistake in the mixture?

no expert but........

Three things come to mind: 1) overheating 2) vent on tank closed 3) choke partially stuck open. alan

add to that list:

Also check, carbureter mixture too rich, old/gas mixture too oil rich, fouling plug(s), engine too large. I get hull speed of 5.5kt with my 1987 Nissan 5hp.

carbon

I had asimilar poroblem with my Nissan 5 hp 4 stroke. Last summer the motor stayed in the shop more than it stayed on the boat. I had carbon build up on the valves. $165.00 later the mechanic told me to burn hi-test Amoco. When done for the day, disconnect the fuel line and let the motor run dry. Good luck
