KICK-UP RUDDER DOESN'T KICK-UP ?

The 170 has a kick-up rudder but the cam-cleat doesn't release it. I purchased an Auto-Release Racing Mini Clamcleat from West Marine for $20.00 and replaced the existing cleat. It is adjustable for release pressure. Now I won't have to carry tools and other materials for that problem. I have jammed the rudder at least 4 times last year and expect it to happen again.

cleat woudn't release

I have had problem un-cleating the rudder control line. It took serious pulling to un-cleat it. I will find the gadget that you mentioned. Thanks! Luan Vienna, VA

Kick-up for $1.47

I "munged" up the hold-down rudder line badly in the clam cleat when I went aground. It cost me $1.47 to replace. I thought "that's not bad - didn't have to replace hardware or plastic". Guess that line is built to take the stress rather than transferring it to some other part.
