Update, the motor is trimmed out I know, I know how to change that. My problem is the height distance between all the way down on the kicker plate and all the way up. I can measure mine in some way and take that measurement and change kicker plate to a longer distance hopefully like an extra foot lower to start. I get pictures all over the internet but where are the distances measurements. ⚓

The outboard engine doesn't go down far enough in the water, can't rebolt it lower, pull start. Storm tried to drag me and my set anchor to Mexico, all sand here Bradenton Beach west.. I was told this of people that look at it, I ignored them for no reason. Boat was ordered without in board 40 years ago, 40 year old Evenrude long shaft, forget extended long shaft, never find one and I can't afford it anyway. A sail thing I guess. Need to know how to measure for a better engine kick plate that drops down correctly and comes up high enough to clean the spark plugs.. Will make pictures. It's not right, spins in the wind 90 percent of the time on bumpy water. Other than that I need a head tank and hoses, just saying grin.

You can remount the engine mount on a wedge block of wood so that the mount plate will be perpendicular to the water instead of leaning forward. That should allow the engine to go further down.

Benny's got it. Cut a wedge of wood and place the wood between the transom and mount so that the engine mount is perpendicular to the water.

So your saying the engine is not quite strait up and down, I had a wedge on the engine side of the engine clamps but this gives me maybe a quarter inch one side, I need at least 5 - 7 inches lower. It doesn't clear the bottom curve of the boat the way it is.

Sounds like you've got the wrong anchor for your conditions. Or too light an anchor for your boat. Or just a sucky anchor in general. Or maybe for that storm you needed 2 anchors in series, or 2 anchors set in a Bahama moor config.

If I'm not mistaken, the Oday 25 has a transom hung rudder.... I see gudgeons in your photo so I think that is correct. If that is the case, a center mounted engine plate would interfere with your rudder.

That is correct... yes, I take the rudder off when not in use.

By placing the wedge between the transom and mount you would be increasing the angle to the water and the arch extended by the length of the mount arms should provide a few inches at the motor. You are right a wedge at the motor is just as good as its thickness, having no extension. Another alternative might be to replace the motor mount with one with added travel. I don't see the arms collapsing fully but that might be due to the lever raising/locking mechanism so modifications may not be the answer. You may also gain a couple of inches by repositioning the black mounting plate lower in the arms.

called a jacking plate (normally for fast bass boats, or skinny water flats boats)

the manual ones are slow to raise and lower, and that angle will be tough. a hydraulic jack plate will work but expensive and not so light.

pro tip: keep the main up when you start to cavitate, helps slow the motion, reduces the pitching.

Benny is correct. With a transverse transom, the motor is cocked at an angle and suggest as several have already make a block that will correct that situation so the motor is straight up and down or perpendicular to the water but make sure that the motor will clear the bottom edge when under throttle or you will damage the lower edge of the transom.

Here is a picture of an aluminum wedge I made years ago for my O'day 28 with a Garelick transom kicker lift. It had plenty of travel and never a problem in choppy conditions, you need to read the specs when comparing lifts as the travel from up & down are two totally different things.
The picture attached shows the motor fully in the up position, not tilted, when in the water I always had it tilted when docked to keep the prop and lower end clear to keep clean and not to sacrifice the metals or zinc.
That lift travelled approximately 16" down, never needed it but nice to have in a chop..

Wow, that's amazing, a real life Transformer. I'm just trying to get my prop in the water. That picture is something that will stick with me the rest of my life. I just need the correct kick plate for my 76 evenrude 2 cycle, 76 O'Day 600 lb fixed keel, It needs to dive a foot deeper.... you all are crazy you know.... God bless us all. Oliver

Passed 3 years living on this boat, makes me an earned corporeal ranking. Next I'm going to grow my white beard, bucking for lieutenant, not really. They rarely make it. Just want to make my beautiful boat finished this winter and asking for all help I can get. Got my ass kicked twice out and about so lighten up please. I'm not dead yet. ⚓

My bad, my last day sail to here took 3 days and almost killed me. I didn't realize my post was that ruff till I re-read it. Two weeks ago I took off south from Blind Pass Marina on the IC and came out in the gulf to go way around The SkyWay bridge. I got hit with East wind 50 mph, 5 ft white caps, I can't get back in to the IC. Trying to tack both directions, I'm being blown out farther and farther. Getting dark, anchor. Wind and waves bad, I'm by myself. Handheld GPS anchor drag alarm keeps going off, dam weather trying to put me into Mexico. I'm out 25miles in morning and yes I use my jib all night to slow my drag. 2 gallons gas left, it gets me a mile back, that's it, it spins mostly in the wind. Call for a tow... no phone service... call coast guard, 2 hours tow to Bradenton Beach Marina. My first run a year or two earlier went bad to. I believe it has gotten under my skin, weather is one thing but this boat is going to get its act together, it's almost there. Almost killed me, I have learned a lot. ⚓⚓⚓⚓ sorry for ... you know.

You could change your plastic mounting plate to one with a better angle, but I think putting the wedge at the boat will be best solution.

also - put plenty of Vaseline ( or silicone grease) on the engine cover gasket to help make it waterproof.
it will go under water for short periods if you ever get it low enough.
