Where do you keep all the crap from your pockest and other "stuff" on the Capri 22.

Our last boat had a shelf along port and starboard the length of the seating area. Everything we needed was handy. Can coozies, bug spray, sun screen, hats and bandanas. Plus it was a great place to drop keys, phones and wallets. The Capri has those big pockets but it's not the same.

I hve an old car seat organizer with a few pockets and pouches that I shortened and attached just inside the companionway on the port side cockpit bulkhead. It works well enough but I am sure the industrious Capri owners of the world have alternate solutions. What are they?

Cheers,
Curt

On the 22 and the 25, I've used a rubbermaid wash basin placed on the starboard side, pushed behind the step (so when we heel, it only slides a little), and it's become the catch-all for junk for the boat... My "policy" is to dump wallets, keys, and cell phones when I arrive at the boat, so there is nothing lost, and nothing gets wet...

if it looks unsightly, I just hide it under the quarterberth to "show" the boat... but I prefer to keep it up and available where I can toss stuff at it when I need to.

I've yet to have it dump on the floor even at 35 degrees of heel. Keep things simple, and the rules simple and everyone will remember.

I added these 3M wall organizers on either side of the companionway hatch. It's great since it keeps everything i want quickly within reach from the cockpit. I ran a wire to where I keep my cell phone as well. All the bins are easy to remove as well. The trick though is you need to deal with the sloping face of that wall. So I beveled some PVC trim board on the table saw at the same angle to give a plumb surface to mount the bins. I just screwed them on, and attached the bins to that.

For day sailing we have a 4x6x3(ish) clear waterproof box that we use. We got it for the Capri 16.5 and it moved to the 22 when we upgraded.

For longer trips we use the bags on the inside of the cabin (sorry, no photos)

I clip the carabiner to the shroud carry-through.
Works great on the tender as well (my kayak)

We learned our lesson the hard way this summer. I'm on a crew that has raced together for years. Each of us has a small bag where we keep keys, phones, glasses, etc. We were racing our Capri and one of the bags was sitting on one if the seats below. During the race we launched the Spinnaker from the companionway like we've done hundreds of times. Evidently his bag rolled off of the seat while the boat was heeling and landed on the chute that was on the floor. When we launched the chute, the bag went with it...
Well, two of the fancy new car keys, watch, prescription glasses and a cell phone. It is amazing how quickly that kind of stuff can add up to $1200.
Lesson learned... keep these valuables in something that is attached to the boat or very secure.

I have a friend who went to a different club to race his J-105. What the guys do (did) is lock their possessions in their respective cars and only take their key. Well, they ran aground hard and could not get off ( tide was probably going out). They called SEA TOW. SEA TOW came out but required CASH or credit card before they would pull the boat off! Luckily, the girl on board had her pocketbook and bailed the guys out .

That's funny!!! Funny thing, these boats have canvas storage bags attached to the sides of the hull with zippers on them... They work pretty well for me. After that story, I will make sure I use the zipper!!!

I like it but I would bet it would cause trouble when I cross the invisinble line into Canadian water or even the Bufalo watefront for that matter. The Buffalo waterfront is a police state! Every agency you can think of patrols the waters. Our Marina is locaced a copule hundred yards across the river from Canal Side, a fantatic waterfront park that hosts free concerts evrey Thursday and pay for it concerts many weekends. Great marina location to listen.

On concert nights we see the Coast Guard, Buffalo Police, Sheriff's Dept., State Troopers, Boarder Patrol and Dept. of Homeland Securety. On occasion even the Hamburg police dept even though Hmburg is 10 miles away by water.

I'll stay away from old ammo cans just top be on the safe side.

Oh Curt.... these are all peacekeepers! What could a little sailboat do to bring a nation down. :::: snicker :::: But I think those old ladies at the airport that are getting frisked... now THEY are dangerous.
