We are heading to St. Michaels on July 5 Via Kent Narrows from the north to the south any advice, suggestions or tips?? We are sailing a 1984 Hunter 31, spending a few days in St. Michaels at the Town Dock Marina and then off to Annapolis for 2 nights. When this sailing bug bites, it bites you hard!

Kent currents

I'm told the smaller Bascule bridge in the Narrows opens on the half hour, and if you miss slack tide, the currents are extremely strong.

Kent Narrows is no problem

I took my Hunter 380 through Kent Narrows last Thursday and had absolutely no problems. Whatever current there is can be easily overcome by the appropriate use of your engine. Just make sure you watch the daymarkers carefully (especially on the southern side) and you'll have no trouble at all. You must remember that the red markers should be on your right as you approach the bridge from EITHER SIDE! So, once you get through the bridge, the red markers will be on your left. After all of the bridges I went through on the ICW in Florida last fall, Kent Narrows is a piece of cake.
