I have never been a big country music enthusiast, but a friend recently turned me on to a Kenny Chesney CD (Be Where You Are) that was all fantastic sailing songs and to me was as good as or even better then many of Jimmy Buffet seafaring CD's. What amazed me about this talented musician is that I understand he owns an island in the British Virgin Islands, is a sailing nut and lives aboard his sailboat when in the spends time in the Islands. Since listening to his music, or this particular CD, I have been curious to know what he sails. Does anyone have any knowledge as to what type of sailboat he owns? Anyone ever see him down there? One of his song's is about on "Foxy's" on Jost Van Dyke. Cool Place. Thanks Bob

From a candid conversation...

between two country music icons: Rodney Crowell and Kenny Chesney RC: Do you have a sailboat? KC: I don’t have a sailboat. I don’t want to work that hard. I have a boat, a 60-foot boat - it’s like a bus. But in a lot of ways, that boat has helped me become a better songwriter. Because every year I’d get off the road and I go straight there. The year before last, I was about as exhausted as I’ve ever been as a person. Mentally exhausted. I wasn’t sick of the business, though. I was just tired — tired of the meet and greets, of the road, of catering. And I was so tired I didn’t even want to listen to anything. I got on my boat and I didn’t even put a CD in. After about a week, I went by my closet, and a buddy of mine, Ben, who’s a boat captain that lives down there, had my closet door open. It’s where I keep my guitar on the boat. So I walked past that closet and I sat and stared at my guitar. Finally, I pulled it out and put some new strings on it. Messed around a bit. And all of a sudden, it’s 3 hours later and I’d written a song. Then I put a Jackson Browne CD in…

Thanks Henry

What a Shocker!!! Chesney's CD has some fantastic sailing songs (Soul of a Sailor is excellent) and one would be under the impression, between, "drink your ales and raise your sails" and "my heart is where the wind blows" that the guy was a real sailor. So, Chesney's a stink potter! But, with that kind of success, I can see jetting down to a 60 foot luxury yacht in the Virgins, settling back with a blender of booze and watching the sailboats go by that would inspire great songs. Appreciate the info. Bob
