With Hurricane season around the corner, I'm thinking of rigging a kellet, but need specific directions. What type weight to use? small dingy danforth?.....how exactly should it be secured to the rode without risking chafe? Hunter 31 with ~20ft chain and 1/2" twist nylon. Thanks much

Here is what I am doing

A kellet seems like a very good addition to any anchoring system. The link below is a good read. I shopped the garage sales this weekend and picked up about forty pounds of wts. for a buck. My intention is to loop a chain through the wts. and put a hose cover over the chain and then connect the ends with a quick connect chain link. The hose should avoid chaffing. I will attach a rope to the kellet and use it as a briddle along with the anchor line.

I use a 15 lb mushroom attached to a snatch block that is snached over the anchor rode. I then attach a lighter line to the mushroom and lower it down the rode. That way I can adjust the depth of the kellett for tidal changes if I want and bring it up without having to haul the anchor. Saves on the back. It is my understanding that the kellett should be just off the bottom for best effect.

I do the same thing richard does.

On my H410 it works very well and also makes a big difference in the sailing at anchor also.
