It's our 38th wedding anniversary tomorrow! Being the romantic that I am, I'd like to get a set of 4 copper cups for Moscow Mules. We've been indulging in Mules, Dark and Stormys and Painkillers since our BVIs trip.
Too late to order. What's a good national store we might have here to get them? What should I look for in a good set? Solid copper? Copper clad? Round? Straight? Large? Small?

Nice gift! Unless you like ingesting copper, get nickle lined ones.

Thanks JD. I think the copper is to keep the cups from sweating. I've seen the lined ones. That may be the way to go. Copper leaches out. Big noise these days about copper clad cookware!

I guess pewter is right out then. Ground up and applied in a film it could be antifouling paint.
I grew up in a household using copper cookware. That might explain a lot.

Actually the reverse, copper MAKES it sweat due to off-the-charts heat transfer and resulting condensation. Its the main appeal of the cups. The best linings mirror that. That's why nickle is better than stainless, SS has the worst heat transference of the major metals.

Nordstroms sent us a set of Moscow Mule copper mugs this year in return for my funny little honey being a very frequent shopper :). Don't know how close you are to one of their stores.

Cool! On sale and close. "Tin lined" ? Is that good? They seem to think that is special.

It isn't the copper, it is the small amounts of lead in the copper that can be freed up by the drink. In this case acidic lime juice. So they line the cup with tin to make it less reactive. I notice our cups are from Turkey, who knows what alloy of copper they used.

Justin, Heather has a complete set of Moscow Mule cups....and her recipe is incredible...even I like them.& I"m a scotch fan.....She uses very good beer which seems to make a difference......stop by our boat this weekend and if we're there she will spoil you...Gosling's ginger beer....she's now growing her own mint, and the brass cups keep it really cold...and delish!

Picked up 4 cups last night. Williams Sonoma was having a 50% off sale. I went with the smooth straight cups vs the hammered rounder ones. Seem like they would take less space. They show fingerprints easier though.
So anniversary gift is taken care of and we have the summer to enjoy them. I need to stop over and get Heather's recipe

Justin: Happy Anniversary to you both! You sure she wouldn't rather have a new sail or boat parts? ;-)
