Keel zinc install

I have a 1984 Catalina 25 swing keel (cast iron). I want to install a zinc on the keel as there is not one. I ordered the one on the Catalina direct website and it says to drill a hole through the trailing edge which I'm assuming is the aft end. The keel is winched all the way up at the moment and can't be lowered because it's on the hard. I don't want to install it where the extra thickness of the zinc will prevent it from being pulled all the way into the trunk so I planned on mounting it as high up as I can while the keel is fully up. Is this correct? It also says that I need to make "electrical contact." with the keel. Does this mean I should grind that portion down to bare metal? This forum has given me some great advice so far so don't let me down lol

Thanks
Kev

don't have any experience with the swing keel model of the catalina 25, but what you describe sounds sounds like it should be correct.

I am not familiar with the Catilina either so I do not know the best place to mount the zinc. But, in general, you do need to make an electrical connection to the keel or the zinc will be worthless. So, yes, you do need to grind down to bare metal and bolt the zinc in contact with it.
