You said you had a survey. What were the surveyor's recommendations?

Unfortunately, many surveyors are selected by the broker or are well known by the broker. Not exactly a relationship working in favor for the buyer, especially an out of town buyer. The way surveys are written, there is little recourse. Without pictures, it is hard to address the keel issues. It is made out of iron which does not bend easily. Have you compared to another boat? As to the bottom, I would contact the broker and ask for an adjustment. Doubt you will get it but you never know.
Were you present when the boat was surveyed? Best advice for the future, never take a brokers word for something, select your own surveyor and be present when the survey is being performed. Sorry to hear of your issues but perhaps they may turn out to be not that big.

I would be more concerned about what caused the wing damage, as well as any associated damage to the hull structure, rather than about how to get the wings back to their original orientation.

You say you noticed this when you surveyed the boat... does this mean you didn't hire an independent surveyor to actually survey the boat, but rather just 'inspected' it yourself, with the broker? If so, you need to have a qualified surveyor, or very knowledgeable layman, review everything associated with the keel and hull structure.

At least that's what I would do.

Thats just WRONG. A reputable broker will not even give you a LIST of potential surveyors, let alone recommend or choose one for you. And the surveyors work for the buyer and no one else, the broker is not even supposed to see the results of the survey. Yikes.

I agree that the broker should not be involved with surveyor selection but that often is not the case. When looking to buy a new boat a couple of years ago there were no shortage of broker offers to find a surveyor. Best to look at the SAMS Directory and interview prospective candidates. Also, I recommend that you should not select the surveyor closest to the boat. I guess I am a little paranoid about broker/surveyor relationships. I also agree that if iron keel wings are bent then structural damage to the hull is a real concern.

I would agree about the surveyor. I would report him through proper channels. Not that it will do much, but it may get his/her attention.

I think you may be able to repair the wings. Check this out. You just need to have it done correctly (once).

I would contact the contractor to determine what they did to the bottom. Many times the old and new paints are NOT compatible.

She's been aground and I think the keel can be straightened. Someone needs to straighten out the surveyor!

Rusty, I grounded my 326 twice! Bent both wings. Couldn't straighten with heat and hammer so left it. Looks like mantaray wings but didn't seem to affect sailing.
