I ordered a new keel winch from Catalina Direct. Installed it no problem. But, the adapter for the handle sticks out about 2 inches from the steps. The original winch adapter was flush with the steps. This is a real injury waiting to happen. The post on the winch with the two flat sides had two lock nuts when I received it. I removed one and left one. Still the adapter sticks out too far. How can I make it flush like the original? I'm considering cutting a couple inches off the post, but I'm afraid I'll ruin the winch somehow. So, how did you fix this problem?

Use the old one!

We replaced our winch last spring. We re-used the old adaptor as it was in good shape since the new one was too long. If yours is still servicable, it might the the easiest solution.Cheers,Mike Vaccaro
