Keel stiffening

I'm interested in looking at a Catalina 30 1988 that indicates that the keel needs stiffening. This supposedly is done by adding fiberglass stringers in the sump/bilge area. Has anyone experienced this behavoir and how was the stiffening complete? Are there any data sheets explaining repairs or editorials explaining this? Thanks. My e-mail address is awoakes@aol.com

Around 1988 Catalina upgraded the Cat 30 to the Mark 2 model. On the previous model the keel stub had a wood core that could rot and had to be replace with epoxy. This can be done without removing the keel and has been written up in the archives. I have not heard of any additional mods.

Al,This is one of the projects I have added to my list of challenges and there's quote a bit of information on this matter in the archives but refer to the Catalina Tech Drawings site (See link below) they have a copy of the instructions issued by Catalina for C30 produced prior to 1988.Also check out the C34 association site, as one owner has provided pictures and great amount of details on the work to be done.Hope this help,Ghislain Gaumond"Emilie-Jolie" C30 1987 #4708
