My 1990 Hunter 33.5 suffered damage in Hurricane Frances and the boat yard is removing the keel to repair some minor damage to the stub where the keel is attached. The cast iron keel has several areas that continuously rust right through the bottom paint within months of a new bottom job.I am considering grinding the trouble areas and treating it with Ospho. This is a rust inhibitor that attacks the rust and converts it to a hard coating that's suppose to retard the rust. I'm planning to apply a metal primer coat before the final bottom coat.Anybody have any experience with Ospho treated keels and it's durability underwater?
