Keel replacement

Bob is thinking about replacing the wing bulb keel on our C-42 with a fin keel. We're in Ohio on Lake Erie. Does anyone in this area know of someone who'd do this kind of work? Or any ideas of web sites to try? I haven't found anything on the net except some rock group called "Keel"! Ha! Anyway, help would be appreciated. I know that Brands Marina on Lakeshore Drive have performed keel changes and alterations. They are not cheap but their work is above average. Look for Shadowfax a 1984 CAT-36 out of Port Clinton.

I too have been interested in changing the keel on my c36 from wing to fin. Catalina can provide you with a new keel and even take yours in trade for the lead. You will also need to change the rudder since the fin keel rudder is much deeper. Catalina can also provide a new rudder reusing your old post. The new rudders are eliptical and I am told work much better. Most any good yard can do this swap. I figured the cost to replace mine was about $7000. Yours would be more as they charge by the pound. You might try advertising your keel as a trade as most people want to go from fin to wing. I ran an ad in this forum and got two responses. This would bring the costs down considerably.
