keel pin replacement ?

I would be more confident if I replaced the pivot pin on the swing keel on my 74, cat 22 . I know it spent years at the slip in fresh water, going back and forth.I just don't see how to do it on the trailer,do I have to hoist it up on stands or can this be done on the trailer? the keel looks terible like it's rusting apart, has anyone a fix for this?Where is the bast place to order parts from/ I KNOW THOSE ARE A LOT OF ISSUES! But I need some experienced help , Thanks in advance.

Swing Keel Video

Your best bet is to order a video from Catalina Direct entitled "Refinishing the Swing Keel". It sounds like you need to refinish the keel besides replacing the pin. The video will take you step by step through the entire process. You can do it on the trailer by following the steps in the video. I did mine this Spring with the help of a friend. It took two weeks to do the job. Most of the time is allowing the epoxy to cure. Just make sure you have the trailer sitting on as flat as surface as possible. Catalina Direct has all the parts you'll need.

lost and have not found

do it now i just lost my keel 3 week agofrom my newley aquired 1976 22 and also can not find salvaged replacement partsmy cat. deeler will be glade to sell me a $900 keel but my ship rite said if he had one $100+$100 to install+pin& cable for $25 would be cheeper - ive all readygiven a diver $150 for a search around my boat -to no avail -muddy and murkybtm. even with e-gear. you can inland sailing in dallas they have or can cet you what you want ,but have no used equip. i was 100yd from a ship yard when i took my boat to tis new lake i should have had her checked out then.for now she sit at mooring whiting... ha! swing keel

get the "refinishing the catalina 22 swing keel" video from catalina direct.i am refinishing my keel by myself and it is going just as in the video. you will need to take the new pin and keel to a shop, the keel is close to 600 pounds good luck.

C22 Keel Problems

Travis,Yesterday I took my C22 to the only place in Indy to work on a sailboat. We hoisted her off the trailer and cranked down the keel to find that the pivot was fine, but the cable was full of "meat hooks" broken strands and that it was routed on the wrong side of the pully ball and cutting the boat in half!!!!! You are right, this is not something to be put off for long. It cost me $82.00 to lift the boat and change the cable.
