Keel material on 37

My 1979 37 keel appears to have been formed for a centerboard. Are these keels lead???? tks, alallen

Definitely lead. Do a Search. One of our members posted that he was going to see how deep the slot is. He wants to try and add a centerboard. None were ever buillt with one.

Thanks, I was worried about corrosion in the slot if it was iron. al allen

Definitely lead, but I swear mine was made from melted down wheel weights with the steel clips still attached 'cause I have hit small pockets of rust when grinding my keel for fairing and priming. I have never seen any trace of a slot - concrete filled or otherwise. Was that just on the shoal draft keels?

Yes Jim, just shoal draft keels have the slot. The keel is very wide for most of its length. I forget how long the slot is since I only saw it once years ago. Less than two inches wide and I have no idea how long.
