My 1984 C-22 has a keel lockdown bolt. It is corroded and will not move! Any sugestions for getting it to work properly would be great. Thanks Art <)))><

PB Blaster

Hi Art what I have found that works well is called PB Blaster it is like wd40 but is great for this. It breaks down the rust and will even break the Galvanic corrosion. I had a cresent wrench that sat on the boat this winter and would not move. I tried 4 different solvents/oils and nothing worked. I soaked it with PB blaster and let it sit for five min and then beat it a couple of times then soaked it again and it workes like new now. You can buy it in napa auto stores for like 6.00 worth the investment. Please post and update so that I know how it worked for you.

keel lock down loosening

Okay, I was the lucky recepient of a bent lock down bolt when I bought my c22 last year. Through lots of penetrant (wd40, I believe) and the continued repositioning of vise grips I got the bent bolt out. The worry of course, was that the fiberglass would give before the bolt - it didn't. It did take me about 2-3 hours and lots of foul language. I did spray lube on both the inside and from underneath and took my time about getting the vise grips positioned. I had already ordered a new bolt and greased it up well. I'm now very careful about keel up keel down issues and the lock down bolt. and I have a bent souvenir bolt to show to anyone interested. good luck.
