I've got a Capri-18 and I need to install a lifting ring on the stub coming out of the keel to lift the boat. Does anyone know the dia. and thread size and where screw-on lifting ring's are sold?

Thanks,

Don

How'd you secure the mast?

I see you raised it with the mast up. How did you keep it there without the backstay? I've got a lifting rig for my Capri 22 too but haven't used it yet. If I could crane-launch with the mast up life would be good!

Thanks,

Chris

Both the Capri-18 and Capri-22 share the same spreader assembly. You'll notice the side stays are behind the mast slightly. This allows you to remove the back-stay to lift the boat with a lifting harness. The mast won't tip back or forward. After your done lifting, re-connect the back stay. Nothing to it. My boat is kept fully rigged, I just push the boom over to the side and secure it to the side stay with a bungie cord,(my boom is supported by a boom-kicker, but that just makes it easier). I reconnect the back stay and I'm ready to go sailing. The pictures I posted was before I got the hang of it, and was learning how to secure all the lines to keep is level,(lifting line from the keel to the lifting ring, 2- 5/16 lines from the lifting ring to the cleats on the side if the cabin top, and 2- 3/8 lines from the lifting ring thru the rear cockpit scuppers and back around to the rear deck cleats). This is the same method I learned from the Capri-22 folks at the yacht club.

Thanks Don, that helps. I've got the lifting ring setup but haven't used it myself. Prior owner used it all of once I think.

Is that a bimini I see in the 2nd picture? How do you clear the boom & traveller - or do you have a stern mounted traveller?

Thanks,

Chris

I just trimed the mounting tubes on the bimini so it's a few inches below the boom in normal sailing mode. It's mounted on a track so I can slide it forward and backward. I normally have it so it's just behind the vang. This covers the compainionway and about 2/3's of the cockpit. The mainsheet is attached to the back-stay as it came from the factory and doesn't interfer with the bimini. It's nice to cruise with the bimini up. We also like to have it up when we spend the night on board. It helps keep the dew out of the cabin and most of the cockpit so it's dry when we enjoy our morning coffee. It also covers the compainionway so we get nice ventilation in the cabin during the night.

Good idea mounting the frame on the track. We have the racing rig with the traveler about mid-cockpit so I don't know that we could make one work very easily; I'll have to think about that. Looks like you've got more clearance below your boom that we do too.
