Keel length and trailering Oday 222

I have purchased a Oday 222 on Long Island and have to transport it home. I expect to leave it on a trailer during the winter thus will trailer it back to Cape Cod. The Keel is around 8" ? Will this fit into a EZ Loader with bunks without any special extra extensions to force the boat to ride higher? It will be a real pain to go to Long Island only to find out the new trailer will not fit.

I would guess that you will have to "rise" the bunks. The important thing here is that the weight of the boat be mostly supported on the trailer via the keel. The bunks ofcourse will carry some of the weight, but their main function is to provide "side to side" support.If you only have an 8" keel you may be able to raise the bunks with normal adjustment or using some angle irons. There needs to be a flat surface for the keel to set on for an even weight distribution.

222 keel

I have a 1984 222, a silver edition anniversary boat. It's a great boat and fun to sail.The keel itself is about 5'6" long and about 8" wide. it should sit on a 6' keel board on your trailor as the keel supports most of the boats weight.The keel extends about 12" from the bottom of the hull. Once the boat is on your trailor adjust the side bunks so that they support the boat keeping it from rocking side to side during transport.Any questions, let me know....
